January Reflection & February Outlook
Fiona: Why BAM Exists and What January Proved
January felt like proof of concept. We did not just define values on paper, we operated by them. We launched with volunteer coaches, established the organization, and covered essential overhead costs. In the early life of any organization, that kind of stability matters.BAM exists because there was a gap. Many adult swim programs feel intimidating, exclusive, or overly performance-driven. We wanted to create a space that is welcoming, supportive, and accessible, without compromising structure or quality.January proved that people want this. Swimmers showed up consistently, new members felt comfortable quickly, and culture formed naturally. As we grow, protecting that culture remains non-negotiable. February is about steady, responsible growth and transparency.
GT: Stability on Deck and Looking Ahead
What stood out most in January was how different BAM feels to new swimmers. Many shared that it felt welcoming, supportive, and unintimidating, especially those new to Masters swimming. While coaching and leadership are not new to me, building BAM from the ground up creates a deeper level of responsibility. This is something we created, not just something we support.February’s focus is stabilising and growing membership. That supports filled lanes, consistency, and credibility as an established Masters team. Consistent coaching builds trust and allows swimmers to focus on swimming, not logistics.
Erica: Community, Inclusion, and Growth
January highlighted the joy of meeting swimmers from various backgrounds and swim abilities and seeing them feel comfortable together. That sense of inclusion is intentional and central to BAM’s identity.Building something from the ground up allows us to shape culture deliberately. That creative freedom has been one of the most rewarding aspects so far.Looking ahead to February, the focus is welcoming more swimmers, strengthening community, and continuing thoughtful growth. The outlook is optimistic, grounded, and rooted in connection.
